Welcome to the Civil War Historian Magazine

Two Federal enlisted soldiers of the Union Army during the Civil War.

Civil War Historian began in 2005 as a publication devoted to those in the Civil War Living History community, but with the underlying goal of taking a “hobby” publication to a whole new level.  The concept of moving beyond the status quo would in the years to follow develop CWH into the premier Civil War hobby publication.

Early in 2008, Jason Adams and Justin Runyon were presented with the opportunity to take ownership of CWH from its original publisher and give it a restored passion, renewed energy, and a new direction for the future.  With a commitment to quality, scholarly excellence, preservation, and dissemination of information, our editorial objective is to provide a publication that is captivating and informative to not only the Living History community, but to the general history reader as well.

Within the pages of CWH, you will find well-written articles, on a variety of topics that will enrich your understanding of this period in American history.  The staff of Civil War Historian realizes that, even during a period literally defined by war, there existed a home front and issues that stood apart from, but affected greatly, the war itself.  CWH also holds the opinion that the events and subjects we cover, although occurring a century and a half ago, remain timely and pertinent to the American consciousness.

Realizing our vision for CWH, however, does not occur in a vacuum, the relationships that we share with our contributors, their countless hours of research and writing, and their willingness to share their work with both us and the readership, is in no small part a factor in the equation.  We feel that the quality of our articles, however, is not the only important aspect of the CWH experience.  The cutting edge, out-of-the-box approach used by our award winning graphic artist is of the utmost importance.  We feel that the quality graphical presentation helps to make our articles more stimulating and aid in a greater understanding of the historic material.

We at CWH do not, however, wish to merely propound our objectives.  We invite you to click on each of the various types of articles, linked to your right, that appear in CWH to see for yourself what we offer.
