GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS TO CIVIL WAR HISTORIAN
Civil War Historian features after-action reports of reenactments, reprints of period publications, historical research articles, preservation updates on endangered sites, preservation victories, and civilian clothing and lifestyle articles. Many of our readers are quite knowledgeable, and we want to provide them with articles that enhance their interest.
We concentrate on historically accurate information regarding regimental units, from both above and below the Mason-Dixon Line, military uniform and equipment studies and "how-to" articles for beginning reenactors. We also include a reenactor classified section, a database for reenactor unit contacts, book reviews and an upcoming reenactment event calendar.
We will provide three complimentary copies of the issue containing your submitted story provided it is selected for publication, based off of our mission guidelines. Articles should be double-spaced on one side of a page and between 600 and 2,500 words long. Exceptions may be made for longer articles if the subject material warrants running it in series.
In most cases high-quality photographs, illustrations, literature, etc. should accompany articles. We prefer text files and images to be sent electronically via email, however, postal service submissions are accepted as well on floppy disk, Zip, CD or DVD. A hard copy of the text should accompany the submission if mailed to our P.O. Box. We prefer the text to be created in Word 95 or newer. Electronic images must be at least 1500 x 2300 pixel and scans should be at 300 DPI. These typically result in file sizes of 3 - 5 megabytes. Images shall be in the format of .tiff, .jpeg, or .psd (Photoshop).
Send article submissions to:
